The original Tocco proved to be a smash hit for Samsung, and to follow
up on its triumph they've since grown the range by adding a ‘lite'
version for users who want the Tocco experience but can't meet the
price tag. The S8300 Tocco Ultra is the logical next evolutionary step
for the range, designed to continue building the success of the
fledgling Tocco lineage and raise the bar both for the wider sector and
the Tocco range itself. With its impressive array of features and
delectable styling, it's clear that Samsung are learning fast.

The Tocco Ultra's main design enhancement is the introduction of a sliderphone keypad, adding a whole new dimension in terms of aesthetics and usability and offering users the versatility to use the phone in different ways for different tasks. This is likely in direct response to the now well-known user preference for conventional phone functionality amongst many non-advanced business users, and by incorporating both input methods into the design, Samsung have positioned themselves well to capitalise on users wanting to flirt with new technology while maintaining traditional functionality.

Although not incorporating Wi-Fi on this latest incarnation, which is slightly surprising given the almost unanimous inclusion of Wi-Fi connectivity amongst its immediate peers, the Samsung Tocco S8300 Ultra instead makes use of 7.2 Mb/s HSDPA connectivity, which ensures an ultra-fast internet connection while on the move. The TouchWiz user interface features super-smooth finger swiping input technology and a variety of home screen widgets and mini-apps, similar to those found on the Samsung Pixon. The advanced colour AMOLED screen hasn't broken the 3 inch milestone offered by many of its direct competitors, but coming in at 2.8 inches it's still more than big enough to ensure ease of use while looking appealingly compact, and performs particularly well in high glare outdoor situations.
All in all, Samsung have done a cracking job with bringing the Tocco range back into the limelight.
